Spanish Award 2009

The Alabama Hispanic Association Announces Presentation of the

OUTSTANDING STUDENT OF SPANISH AWARD

The Alabama Hispanic Association (AHA) shows it's commitment to promote education and learning of the Spanish language by becoming sponsors of the "Outstanding Student of Spanish Award".

This year the ceremony for the Outstanding Spanish Students Awards was held at Johnson High School library on Monday, May 18th, from 6:00 to 7:30. AHA recognized the one student from each of the high schools in the Huntsville area that has shown the most outstanding achievement and interest in the study of Spanish and the Hispanic culture.

The students were selected and evaluated by their respective Spanish teachers, following general guidelines given by AHA. The winning students received a certificate for their accomplishments and each participating school received a plaque to display the names of past recipients of the award. This is the first year the Alabama Hispanic Association has sponsored this event. In the future, the presentation of awards will be held once a year at a different high school.  Promoting the study of the Spanish language to high schools students is important to AHA because it prepares them to work in a multi-lingual environment.

The attending AHA members were delighted with the students’ presentations given entirely in Spanish. Present at the ceremony were parents, teachers and principals of the different schools. Guest speaker was Larry Perreault, owner of Century 21 Steele & Associates. After the ceremony, AHA provided dessert and refreshments to students and guests.
