The concept of a Hispanic association was born after a group of
Hispanic-Americans converged at an annual Hispanic festival in Huntsville,
Alabama. Mrs. Rosie Douglas founded the Hispanic festival to kick off the
official celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The group envisioned an
organization that would improve the educational and economic opportunities
amongst Hispanics in North Alabama.
In September of 2002, the group incorporated as a nonprofit organization and
became officially known as the Alabama Hispanic Association. The Association
continues to host annual Hispanic Festivals but today it encompasses many
cultural activities as well as programs that provide needed services to
Hispanics in North Alabama.
Mission Statement: The Alabama Hispanic Association (AHA) fosters the welfare of the Hispanic community in Huntsville and surrounding counties by identifying services and resources available in the community, providing educational services, promoting cultural awareness, and bridging the gap between the Hispanic community and the community at-large.
