| AHA’s upcoming bash is
just around the corner. I’m talking about the long-awaited Christmas Charity
Dance which has been earmarked to raise vital resources for our Community
Outreach program. The proceeds will go toward the acquisition of groceries
and toys to be given to disadvantaged Hispanic families during the Christmas
season. You’re cordially invited to join us for a pleasant evening of great music, dancing and socializing. We’ll be dancing the night away to the hot sounds of Luis Treviño’s Latin Rhythms Band and DJ extraordinaire, Signey Hernandez. For those of you who want to brush up on Salsa, Meringue and Cha-Cha moves, there will be a FREE group lesson from 8 to 9 p.m. Attire: “Dress to Impress”, i.e. look sharp in whatever you choose to wear. Admission fee: $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Save money by buying advance tickets at La Michoacana Grocery Store, 2007 University Drive, (256)532-0266, open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. You may also mail your check payable to A.H.A. NLT November 10 to 1595 Slaughter Road, Suite A, Madison, AL 35758, and your ticket will be reserved at the door. Don’t forget to mark your calendar to attend this event. The funds raised will go toward a good cause! |

| The 5th Annual Hispanic Festival was a huge success thanks to the hard work and dedication of members of AHA and the group of community volunteers who offered their help and support to this event. This year's entertainment included a diverse mix of music and dances, from solo singers to full bands and from Reggae to Mexican. The kids activities and piñata breaking contests proved to be the most popular events throughout the day and they will be featured again at next year's festival. Date and particulars for the 2004 festival haven't been decided yet, but we'll keep you posted through the newsletter and website. Contact Signey Hernandez, Committee chair, at signeyh@yahoo.com if you would like to participate in next year’s festival. | ||||||||||

| The Fall tutoring for
Decatur High School students began on Saturday, September 6, 2003. The
classes are being held at the new St. Ann's Education School on Spring Road,
Decatur. As per Mr. Greg Robinson, English as a Second Language (ESL)
instructor, most students are doing well in school. We are averaging seven
students per session; however, this may change during the Spring semester.
If the student body grows, there will be a need for more tutors in the
spring. If you would like more information regarding the Tutoring program,
contact Vincent Fuentes, Committee Chair, at
viclup@msn.com. NASA’s 2nd Annual Hispanic Youth Conference was held at the Marriott Hotel on Friday and Saturday, October 3 and 4. It was well attended by Decatur High School ESL students. They enjoyed the program and all the activities on both days. |
